Reduzing size/resolution and probably changing the color room of the original while reducing did cause the waves. If you want to just reduce the file size (less MB) normally you just save it as jpg with reduced quality (that’s what I do in Lightroom) rather then reducing resolution / colors. That should normally avoid this problem.
That is actually what I did: reduced size only and saved it as jpg in Photoshop. I did not change the resolution. Thanks for your response. At least I know the explanation and will try to avoid it in the future 🙂
Is this is the original file out of camera or did this come in at post production?

I checked and the “waves” appeared after I processed the photo to a smaller size.

If you have processed your photo to a lesser size, this might happen.
