Light that disperses the darkness. Here, in the church, the shining candle symbolizes not only the rays of sun that enable us to see the world around us, but also the spiritual light that points the way to God. The first photo is my favorite. It reminds me of cupped hands holding a little light of hope that pushes back the surrounding darkness.
I found the inspiration for these photographs in my recent travels through Europe. These were taken in Cathedral of Holy Chalice in Valencia, Santa Maria della Maggiore in Rome, and Basel Munster in Basel.
