A leisurely walk around Winston Churchill’s garden uncovered a plaque in the wall commemorating the fact that he built most of it himself. Interesting to think about this great politician as a person who not only enjoyed working with his hands but also the challenge that comes with building a structure that serves a practical purpose. The whole area is divided between the practical kitchen garden, where he grew herbs, and the elegant garden, which he created for beauty and relaxation. All of this bespoke of an artist in the man who had at least a few “sides” to his nature.
